PAQUITO and ERLINDA

By: Mylene Campos

Half a century later, the Sequito's reminisce about the time they fell in love. It was in January of 1968 (after being together for almost six years) when Paquito and Erlinda discovered that they were pregnant. The couple may have faced a lot of roadblocks through the years (starting a family without enough preparation and resources, needing acceptance from both families, meeting expectations from each other). Still, they’ve managed to go through life loving each other more each day.

AFTER I DO’S | The couple already knew what they were getting into soon after exchanging their I DO’S. They were both ready to face anything, as long as they were together. The pair made their marriage work by maintaining trust and open communication while acknowledging that both spouses are not perfect. Erlinda even shared how happy she was that she married Paquito. She appreciated the fact that he never failed to cook and prepare meals for the family.

A HAPPY FAMILY | The couple has three daughters, one of whom gave them the greatest academic honor (one became a Certified Public Accountant). Paquito and Erlinda cherished this milestone, especially after looking back on the financial hardship and difficulties that they’ve endured while sending their children to college.

WORDS OF WISDOM | The Sequito's want to encourage all of the soon-to-wed couples to prepare for their future. “They should be financially ready and emotionally prepared to face anything that comes their way,” they shared. They also added that when planning a wedding, couple’s should be able to live and spend according to their budget.

GOLDEN WEDDING PREPARATIONS | The couple was fortunate to have their children in helping make their golden wedding anniversary a memorable occasion (all three daughters took care of the logistics when it came to the church, reception, food, entourage, decorations, guests, accommodations and wedding outfits). Gold and black tones were also incorporated into the wedding motif since it was their 50th anniversary.

Planning and executing the details for their special day was a smooth one because committees were established to do various work, as the budget was never an issue. Everyone was reliable, as each person in the team cooperated with much excitement. The couple also wishes to thank their suppliers for making the event a successful one.

THE WEDDING ENTOURAGE | Their family is quite large. So the selection process was quite difficult because everyone wanted to partake in such a memorable event. The entourage was formed and was comprised of the couple’s daughters and their husbands, their grandchildren, and cousins.

MEMORABLE MOMENTS | One of the most memorable moments of the wedding was when Erlinda sang their song. Even at 70, the bride can still sing very well. Her performance made the wedding ceremony very intimate and classy.
