Eldrick Conwi’s Great Gatsby-inspired 21st birthday was his greatest introduction into the world of adulthood. And his coming of age was the grandest celebration anyone could only dream of and more.
A FINE YOUNG MAN | Growing up, Eldrick learned that keeping quiet and doing nothing won’t get you anywhere, and this taught him to stand up for what he feels is just and right. And like any ambitious-driven individual, he also aspires to be a doctor someday. The University of Santo Tomas undergraduate shared, “I’ve always had an interest in science as a kid. It has somehow led me to develop an eagerness to become a doctor. To become one will allow me to help the local community. Also, there is a demand for medical practitioners."
The music and watch enthusiast also looks forward to becoming a mature adult. “I look forward to being a contributing member of society and maintaining good health.”
A GRAND COMING OF AGE | Eldrick’s decision to throw a party for his 21st birthday was a no-brainer. “Well, for guys, their coming of age is typically done at 21. So I thought, why not. My parents were events coordinators, so it wasn’t a decision I thought long and hard about,” he shared. His experience, having celebrated this rite of passage into adulthood, was pretty fun. “It felt so different being the one receiving all the attention like that,” he added.
THE CREATIVE PROCESS | Eldrick’s debut started by having a specific motif in mind. He shared, “we went for a Gatsby-inspired theme because I’m very much into that era, which I was in the mood for.”
The debutant and his team started developing the invitations and table arrangements as soon as they established the theme. Soon after, they attended food tastings and picked out clothes for the party. “We chose what music to play throughout the event, and also made a program flow for special numbers and other things.” There were a few songs and a dance number planned for that night. And the months leading up to the event were spent practicing for those performances. “It’s good to start early to be able to get things polished,” Eldrick recommended. “We also prepared for the pre-debut shoot, which was a lot of fun.”
MEMORABLE MOMENTS | For Eldrick, there was a lot of memorable things worth cherishing. He shared, “I liked it when my friends talked and said things about the past during certain portions of the party like the 21 treasures, for example. It was a great feeling being able to reconnect with them. I also liked that I was able to play for my friends. Many of them come from that sort of background, so it was a really good feeling performing for them.”
WORDS TO LIVE BY | The young man looks up to loved ones who’ve imparted some wise words to him. For Eldrick, what will help him go through life is this particular advice, “keep love as the driving force behind every action you make.”
