VHEANE ARAGON SANTOS

AN ELEGANT 18Th CELEBRATION

By Mylene Campos

Debuts have become an important and glamorous event in Philippine culture, and it has become a platform for introducing to society a young lady who is now a woman. Locally, a Filipina celebrates her debut on her 18th birthday. For Vheane Aragon Santos, marking her coming of age was a day worth cherishing and more.

BECOMING 18 | Like any regular teenager, Vheane admits to being a procrastinator when it comes to getting certain work and chores done. But when there are things that need to be accomplished, she always gives it her best shot. However, when she turned 18, things felt more different for her, but for the better. She felt more mature and wiser. “I was always used to saying ‘come what may’ and ‘just enjoy’. I didn’t think about the consequences of all my actions then.” She also added, “but my early teenage years still taught me lots of valuable lessons, which I will never forget. It has brought me infinite possibilities, and a life filled with color and energy.”

Now that she’s 18, Vheane looks forward to experiencing a more fruitful period in her life. Turning into a young adult comes with accountabilities, but she’s ready to take things head on. “I feel like being a woman won’t be that simple, as it comes with great responsibilities. I feel like I should be responsible enough, and that I should act accordingly to it. I mustn’t let my mood ruin or affect my manners. It’s also knowing what sophistication means and embodying it because that’s what a real woman must do. But it’s also about enjoying and embracing the journey of becoming a woman.”

The debutante looks forward to establishing a steady circle of friends and creating connections that will influence her to be a better version of herself. She also wants to explore a few more different places with her loved ones and to learn from other people along the way. “I also look forward to becoming a more responsible and independent woman who always keeps in mind these three important principles: love, faith, and hope,” she shared.

HER INSPIRATION | Vheane may already have someone special who inspires her, but she’s set on waiting for the right time. She shared, “I have an inspiration. Though I’m not yet allowed to enter into a relationship. But maybe in 1-2 years from now because I still need to gain my parent's trust with regards to entering into a relationship because it’s a serious matter. I simply want my man to treat me the way my father and grandfather treats me. I want a man who is responsible, God-fearing, loving, and kind. Someone who respects my loved ones as much as he respects me.”

OF WORTHY DREAMS AND CAUSES | The debutante dreams of becoming a Pediatrician, in hopes of helping children who are in need of proper care and medication. “I want to use the things that I’ve learned to cure them. I want to conduct a medical mission in places where there is a lack of medical supplies and medical facilities,” she shared. Aside from being a medical professional, she also aspires to be a beauty queen. If she were to be given a chance to represent the country, saving Mother Earth would be her main advocacy.

When asked how she pictures herself 10 years from now, she answered, “I see myself as a Registered Medical Technologist who will continue to reach my goal of becoming a Pediatrician. I see my family living in a simple house yet one that provides them rest and recreation. I also see myself having a life that’s happy and simplistic with my family while helping not just other people but also our environment. Lastly, I see myself being financially-stable, who’s able to support my family and my needs while living my dreams.”

WORDS OF WISDOM | Vheane lives by her parents loving guidance as she's always reminded to be responsible in everything that she does and to think first before doing anything. She's also been taught to fight for what is right and to never allow anyone to verbally or physically hurt her. Most of all, she was taught to be a God-fearing person. “Keep that love in your heart, and everything will follow. Also, stay humble and be an inspiration to everyone,” she added.

PRECIOUS GIFTS | The debutante liked all of her presents. Her guests truly knew her taste (from the kikay stuff to the practical ones). “What I loved the most were the bags that I received, which were my favorite gifts. Bags are really useful for me as it’s where I keep my belongings, especially my phone and girly stuff.”

A MEMORABLE NIGHT | Vheane’s 18th birthday was a memorable one as it was attended by her relatives, closest friends, and classmates. “My celebration gave us an opportunity to gather my relatives, and for me to see my closest friends again. All of our preparations were worth doing because the whole event was a success. Everything wouldn’t have been possible if it weren’t for my mom and dad’s support. Indeed, my 18th was one of the most unforgettable days of my life. Thank you to God for giving me another year that is worth celebrating!”

For the debutante, her celebration had no dull moments. “Everything was perfect that night. The father and daughter dance truly touched my heart. I felt my father's love and care. Our kulitan moments while we were dancing was one of the best for me.” She added, “wala din naging KJ noong mga oras na yon! Everybody participated and followed what Ms. M (the host of Organizatorre di Eventi) said. Looking at them with their big smiles made me the happiest. I felt their love and support, which touched my heart.” The family has already seen Ms. M host other events, who was great at entertaining people. That’s why Vheane’s mother requested her for the party.

COMMENDABLE SUPPLIERS | It took Vheane and her team several months to prepare for her special night. They first started planning her debut by doing an estimated headcount of their guests. Once the numbers were established, they chose a venue that would be big enough for their quantity and soon chose Bali Garden, which was an ideal location for their guests. She shared, “the accommodating staff of Bali Garden assisted us even during the pre-debut shoot with BoothStax. I’m glad we chose an ‘elegant floral’ theme that perfectly fit the venue, which I think fits my personality too. Plus, the food choices were great! Thanks, Herbie’s Catering and Events! My guests loved your spread. You’re worth recommending! Masasarap ang bawat putahe, even the lechon. And the desserts and salad tasted good too.”

The debutante also praised the friendly baristas from Barikit Mobile Bar and the crew of Tineysmiles Photobooth. “You won’t be disappointed with their drinks, kaya blockbuster ang pila eh!  Super enjoy din sila sa Tineysmiles Photobooth. Hindi talaga pinalampas ng guests ang moment na makapagpapicture,” she added.

Vheane personally chose the three gowns that she wore to her celebration. “The first one was a red beautiful ball gown, which was designed by Bong Ronquillo from Taytay, Rizal. The second was a maroon gown that was bought at Arnie’s Dream Wedding in D8 Mall. The last one was an elegant black and gold gown from Lorienel Gerebise Agawin of Maria Loraine Dress Shop in Makati City.”

The young woman also commended Ms. Michaella “Ellai” Delos Santos and Ms. Joreen Jadia for beautifying them for that special event. “They came ahead of time, just so we could prepare early for the make-over. They did a great job!” she added. Vheane’s mother also contacted her aunt Katherine D. Aragon to do the Doxology and requested Mr. Edsel C. Duria to sing for the Father and Daughter Dance. “Kudos to both of them! I felt teary-eyed with their heartfelt songs.”

The Audio Visual Presentation also took a month’s time to prepare because they had to gather photos of the debutante from when she was an infant up to present. “My mom was the one behind it. She even requested my friend, Mr. Glenford Mediario, to do the video. Every time a picture flashed on the screen, my friends would scream and make fun of it, which was all good.”
